Case Of Batch Quality Abnormalities, Returns And Exchanges For Hand-painted Ceramic Christmas Gifts
Problem description
A European chain home goods and gifts customer placed an order with our factory for Christmas hand-painted ceramic spoon rests, cake stands, and mug gift sets, totaling *** SKUs and *** pieces, shipped in *** 40HQ containers to *** port and then transferred to *** warehouse. During warehouse sampling inspection and full inspection before store shelving, the customer found that approximately *** pieces had glaze pinholes, misaligned hand-painted patterns, batch color differences, chipped rims, fine cracks on the base, and transport damage caused by insufficient packaging cushioning, with a comprehensive defect rate of approximately ***%. The customer demands large-scale return and exchange of defective products, and due to the approaching Christmas sales season, has raised claims for air freight replenishment, manual sorting fees, and compensation for delayed sales.
Solutions
Within *** hours, our factory established a dedicated quality task force, froze the inventory of the same batch, and traced raw materials, painting, firing, and packaging records. We invited a *** third-party inspection agency to the customer's warehouse for joint re-inspection. After confirmation by both parties, the defective products were finally identified as *** pieces, of which *** pieces can be downgraded and *** pieces require replenishment. Considering that returning the entire ceramic batch would incur high freight costs and further delay the delivery schedule, both parties agreed through negotiation that the customer would sort the defective products on site, take photos as evidence, and then scrap or downgrade them. For subsequent bulk shipments, sampling inspection will be increased by ***%, and video inspection records will be provided.
