Real customer cases, witness our professional service and commitment
A customer (*** Electronics GmbH) purchased a batch of PCB boards and SMT assembly services for automotive control modules from our company, totaling 120,000 pieces. After the first week of assembly, the customer reported that approximately 3,500 pieces exhibited cold solder joints and insufficient wetting, with a defect rate close to 3%, far exceeding the agreed AQL 0.65 standard. The customer's production line was forced to halt, and they demanded that our company immediately assume full responsibility, provide compensation, and offer urgent technical support.
Our company immediately initiated the remote technical support service process: 1) Arranged FAE engineers to connect with the customer's IQC and SMT production line via video conference + high-definition microscope, guiding the customer to perform cross-section analysis and push-pull force testing on defective boards, while simultaneously retrieving our SMT reflow oven temperature curve records; 2) Through remote comparison, it was found that the customer, in order to rush work, had lowered the reflow peak temperature to 235°C (below the recommended solder paste peak of 245±5°C), and the chain speed was too fast, resulting in insufficient soaking time; 3) Our engineers guided the customer online to adjust the oven temperature curve to 240°C, reduce the chain speed to 85cm/min, and perform rework-style reflow processing on 20,000 boards that had been placed but not yet soldered; 4) Simultaneously arranged a 24-hour China-Europe customer service hotline, and urgently air-shipped 5kg of the same batch of solder paste and 3 temperature measurement boards to the customer for retesting.
After the customer adjusted parameters following remote guidance, production ran continuously for 48 hours. Random inspection of 3,000 pieces showed no cold solder or virtual solder joints, with the defect rate dropping to 0.08%. The remaining 20,000 pieces were reworked and all passed ICT and functional testing, and the customer's production line resumed mass production. The final root cause confirmed by the customer was improper oven temperature settings on their side. Our company only charged remote support fees, avoiding a full-batch return claim of approximately RMB 1.2 million. Moreover, the customer placed an additional new order of 50,000 pieces that month and stated they would continue using our remote technical support service.
A foreign customer (*** company) ordered a batch of 4-layer ENIG PCB boards, totaling 80,000 pieces, for industrial control modules. During IQC sampling inspection, the customer found that about 12% of the boards had out-of-spec high-frequency signal transmission impedance values, leading to signal reflection and high bit error rates in final product testing after SMT assembly. The customer has already assembled 6,000 pieces, of which about 700 showed functional defects, and requires a full batch return/replacement and compensation for the incurred SMT losses. Internal investigation revealed that the issue originated from dielectric thickness fluctuation in a certain batch of copper-clad laminates and etching line width deviation, which is a process control issue on our side.
1. Arrange a video conference with the quality/technical team and the customer at the earliest opportunity to confirm the failure mode, and retrieve production records and outgoing inspection reports, acknowledging responsibility for the process; 2. Conduct 100% impedance testing and screening on the remaining 74,000 units of inventory boards, remove defective units, and first air-freight the conforming units to the customer to ensure the customer's production line does not stop; 3. For the 6,000 units already mounted by the customer, our company bears all labor and material costs for component removal, PCB scrapping, and re-mounting, and compensates at the unit price agreed upon by both parties; 4. Process all 80,000 units as returns, and at the same time, free of charge, re-produce a new batch of boards using stricter impedance control processes (100% TDR inspection), and expedite shipment in batches via sea and air freight, with delivery shortened by one week compared to the original schedule; 5. Submit third-party laboratory test reports with the shipment, and update process control standards (100% incoming inspection of dielectric thickness, SPC control of etched line width) to prevent recurrence.
After the customer received all the qualified PCBs from the replacement and re-production, the impedance retest pass rate was 100%, and the production line resumed smooth operation. All 80,000 defective units from the returned goods were destroyed by our company. Our company bore the return shipping costs, SMT losses, and rework expenses totaling approximately RMB 380,000. The customer acknowledged our response speed and compensation plan, and resumed the previously suspended follow-up order of 150,000 new units. The cooperation between both parties continues.
Customer *** (a European industrial equipment manufacturer) purchased a batch of 4-layer PCBs for industrial controllers from our company, with a single order quantity of 50,000 pieces. After SMT assembly, the customer reported that approximately 15% of the boards exhibited open solder joints / cold solder joints during ICT testing, concentrated in the QFP-128 and BGA package areas. The customer requires our company to immediately arrange technical support personnel to visit their overseas factory to analyze the root cause on-site and provide a batch solution; otherwise, they will suspend subsequent orders and file a claim.
Our company urgently dispatched 2 senior process engineers and 1 failure analysis engineer, arriving at the customer's factory within 48 hours. On-site cross-section analysis, X-Ray inspection, and re-measurement of the soldering temperature profile revealed that the failure was caused by the customer's reflow oven temperature being set too low (peak temperature only 235°C), and the PCB pad surface finish being ENIG, which has poor compatibility with the leaded solder paste used by the customer. Our engineers assisted the customer in re-optimizing the reflow profile, adjusting the peak temperature to 245°C and increasing the soak zone time; additionally, for the BGA area, they recommended better solder paste printing parameters. For the defective boards already produced, our team guided the customer on-site in using a rework station for BGA/QFP touch-up soldering, and provided a batch of dedicated stencil fixtures free of charge. Furthermore, we provided the customer in advance with the PCB solder mask thickness and pad solderability reports for subsequent orders, and dispatched an on-site quality control officer to assist the customer in continuously monitoring the production process for 3 batches.
After 3 days of on-site debugging and capacity verification, the customer's production line welding defect rate dropped from 15% to below 0.3%. Over 95% of the 5,000 defective boards reworked passed ICT testing. The customer eventually resumed normal production. Subsequently, the customer placed a new order of 200,000 units and listed our company as an A-level priority supplier.
