Customer High-speed Hair Dryer Batch Temperature Control Abnormality Quality Issue Return And Exchange Case
***The customer purchased 48,000 units of *** model high-speed hair dryers through *** order, shipped in 3 x 40HQ containers to the *** market. During the customer's incoming inspection and trial sales, it was found that *** batches, approximately 6,800 units, had frequent triggering of temperature control protection, excessive fluctuation of outlet air temperature, localized overheating of the body, and abnormal motor noise. The preliminary defect rate is about 14.2%, involving 32,000 units already in the warehouse, 12,000 units in transit, and 4,000 units pending shipment. The customer requests a full batch return and exchange for the problematic batches, and claims compensation for rework, warehousing, ocean freight, and terminal after-sales costs.
We immediately launched the 8D and batch traceability process, jointly with *** third-party testing institutions and the customer's quality team, to confirm that the root cause was the temperature resistance parameter drift of the temperature control board incoming material from *** batch and inconsistent assembly torque. Handling plan: 1) All 16,000 units in transit/to be shipped are fully intercepted, qualified temperature control boards are replaced, and they will be shipped in batches after 100% aging testing; 2) For the 32,000 units already in the customer's warehouse, the *** local after-sales team will conduct on-site full inspection; 21,000 repairable units will have the temperature control components replaced, and 11,000 non-repairable units will be scrapped locally and replaced with an equal quantity of new products; 3) 8,000 units will be urgently replenished to the terminal market by air, and 24,000 units will be shipped by sea to replenish inventory; 4) We will bear the costs of return and exchange freight, tariffs, warehousing, rework, and scrapping, totaling *** USD; 5) We will provide an 8D report, CAPA corrective actions, key material traceability, and stricter sampling inspection for the next 5 batches; 6) The warranty period will be extended by 6 months.
The customer accepted the solution. Within 45 days, 48,000 units of replacement and replenishment and 32,000 units of on-site rework were completed. No safety incidents or mass complaints occurred in the end market. The customer withdrew the original claim and resumed subsequent orders, added an additional order of 120,000 units in the next quarter, and included the *** model in the annual framework procurement agreement.
