Case Of Batch Return And Exchange For Color Difference Of Blackout Curtain Fabric And Dutch Velvet Fabric From A Large European Furniture Retailer
Customer *** (a well-known European furniture chain group) purchased 8,000 meters of blackout curtain fabric (model ***) and 6,000 meters of Dutch velvet fabric (model ***), with a total value of approximately *** USD. After arrival, quality inspection found: four batches of blackout curtain fabric had obvious color difference (ΔE>3.5), among which two batches were yellowish and one batch was bluish; the Dutch velvet fabric showed large areas of indentation and uneven pile layering (affecting decorative effect), with a defect rate of about 35% (involving 2,100 meters). The customer rejected the goods and demanded a full return and exchange, and also claimed compensation for downtime losses due to delays in their furniture production line.
1. Immediately arrange for a quality inspector to go to the customer's *** warehouse for full inspection, and re-grade according to AQL2.5 standard: 1,200 meters of shading fabric (conforming products) will be retained on site, and the remaining 6,800 meters will be returned; 2,100 meters of Dutch velvet (defective products) will be returned, and the remaining 3,900 meters (conforming products) will be retained. 2. Initiate an emergency production schedule to complete replenishment within 15 days for 6,800 meters of shading fabric (using a uniform dye batch and confirming with samples) and 2,100 meters of Dutch velvet (using a new shaping process to avoid indentations), air freight to the customer's *** port, with freight costs borne by us. 3. Compensate the customer for production line downtime losses caused by waiting, amounting to *** USD (8% of the order value), and provide a 5% discount on the next order as compensation for long-term cooperation.
The customer accepted the solution. After replenishment arrived and passed third-party SGS inspection, the customer's production was no longer interrupted. Both parties signed a new annual framework agreement, upgrading the color difference standard from ΔE≤3.0 to ΔE≤2.0, and added our on-site QC process. The customer was satisfied with our quick response and subsequently placed an additional order of 20,000 meters across 3 varieties.
