Case Of Large-scale Children's Puzzle Printing Color Deviation And Missing Parts Return/exchange For *** Company
*** Company (European importer) placed an order for 5,000 sets of children's puzzles (SKU: PT-2024-06), with a value of approximately USD 32,000. During random inspection at the overseas warehouse, the customer found that about 1,200 sets of puzzles had obvious printing color deviation (color numbers deviating from Pantone standards), some sets had missing puzzle pieces (50-piece sets actually contained only 49 pieces), and the outer packaging shrink film damage rate reached 8%. The customer reported that this quality issue seriously affected their distribution in supermarket channels and demanded a full return of the batch and compensation.
Our company immediately retrieved the production batch records and QC inspection reports, confirming that the issue is concentrated in the same batch (Batch#0608), caused by temperature/humidity control failure in the printing workshop and missing pieces during manual packaging. After consultation with the customer, we have adopted the following measures: 1) Conduct a full re-inspection of all remaining inventory of this batch, weighing each set to verify piece count, and removing color-differentiated and damaged items; 2) For the 1,200 affected sets already shipped, immediately arrange air freight to send replacement qualified products, bearing all air freight costs; 3) Include an additional 3% spare puzzle pieces as loss compensation with the replacement products; 4) Additionally grant the customer a 3% discount on the next batch order as compensation for quality breach.
The customer agreed to the replenishment and discount plan, and no batch return occurred. Our company completed the replenishment within 10 days, and after the customer's re-inspection passed, the products were put on shelves for normal sale. The defective products in this batch were reworked and sorted into B-grade items, which were then sold at a discounted price to other long-term small wholesale partners. The overall loss was controlled within 7% of the order value, and the cooperative relationship between both parties was not affected. The customer subsequently placed two additional repeat orders.
