High-Temperature Polyimide Tape

An overseas customer (Company Name: ***, Order No.: ***) purchased a total of 50,000 rolls of PET masking tape for high-temperature applications, with a value of approximately USD 86,000. After the goods arrived at the port, the customer reported that during SMT reflow soldering process testing, the tape edges lifted and adhesive residue remained after peeling, with a yield rate of less than 60%. The customer attached segmented videos and a laboratory peel force test report, indicating that the tape's 180° peel strength was only 0.45 N/mm, significantly lower than the mutually confirmed standard of ≥0.8 N/mm. The customer requested a full batch return and replacement, as well as compensation for production line downtime losses.

Our company immediately activated the customer complaint response mechanism: 1) We requested the customer to retain the original packaging and randomly select 10 boxes (200 rolls in total) to be sent back to China, while arranging a third-party inspection agency, SGS, to issue a bilingual (Chinese and English) inspection report; 2) It was confirmed that the issue originated from substandard corona treatment of the PET substrate in this batch, resulting in insufficient coating adhesion, which constitutes a quality accident in the production process; 3) After negotiation with the customer, the following solution was reached: all 50,000 rolls will be compensated at 100% of the original order amount, and the newly produced 55,000 rolls (including 5,000 rolls of additional compensation) will be shipped by air freight, with our company bearing all air freight costs, destination port customs clearance fees, and the customer's manual sorting costs; 4) We will compensate the customer USD 3,200 for downtime losses caused by the production stoppage.

An overseas customer (***) made a one-time purchase of PET high-temperature masking tape (specification: ***, quantity: 50,000 square meters) for PCB surface gold plating masking process. The customer reported that during continuous production, the tape edges lifted and abnormal adhesive residue remained after removal, resulting in approximately 3,200 square meters of defective products. The customer requested urgent technical support and suspension of subsequent orders.

Our technical team conducted a remote diagnosis via video conference on the same day, requesting the customer to provide key data such as tape roll number, surface treatment process of the bonded substrate, baking temperature curve, and peeling angle. Upon comparison, it was found that the customer's actual baking temperature peaked at 220°C, close to the short-term temperature resistance limit of this tape model (180°C). Additionally, the customer used an acidic cleaning agent before bonding, leaving chemical residues on the substrate surface that affected adhesive adhesion. Through remote guidance, the customer adjusted the baking temperature curve (peak reduced to 170°C), added an alcohol wiping step before bonding, and simultaneously adjusted the tape edge trimming angle. At the same time, 2,000 square meters of PI masking high-temperature tape with higher temperature resistance (250°C) were urgently airlifted as a replacement solution to ensure the customer's production line did not stop.

Customer *** (an overseas medical device manufacturer) purchased a total of *** rolls of medical-grade PET tape and PVC transfer film in one batch for the production of infusion solution bags, with a shipment value exceeding *** million USD. Since this customer had not previously used such a combination of high-adhesion tape and transfer film, their production line workers were not skilled in operation, resulting in large lamination alignment deviations and improper transfer temperature control, leading to a product defect rate as high as ***%. The customer filed an urgent complaint and requested our assistance in resolving the issue.

We immediately dispatched 2 senior process engineers to the customer's factory and carried out a 5-day special training service. The training content included: ① Tape storage conditions and pre-use pretreatment specifications; ② Parameter adjustment for automatic lamination equipment (e.g., pressure, speed, temperature); ③ Correct transfer operation procedures and common troubleshooting for PVC transfer film and hot-stamping transfer film; ④ Tape cutting, lamination, and inspection standards for the sealing area of infusion bags; ⑤ On-site demonstration and guidance for workers to complete 1,000 trial production batches, with operation videos recorded simultaneously for future reference.
